1st Sunday

        Opole - Krakow

 

    Opole Station



       catch IC 63104 at 9:45 to Krakow Glowny (2 hr 10 mins) *BOOKED $10*

         

        Krakow

        Take this exit past platform 1 to avoid the mall madness of the main exit

 


        Walk 20 minutes to Hala Targowa market hall for Sunday flea market

 

    Film with spy cam while looking for treasures


 

     Have lunch nearby at Przystanek Pierogarnia Bonerowska

 

    Walk 5 mins to outskirts of old town

 

      Walk straight across main plaza past St. Mary's Basilica...


    ...past the Cloth Hall and out the other side of town.



      Walk 2 blocks through the park around the old-town perimiter and check in to Pokoj12c (8 Juliana Dunajewskiego), *BOOKED $37*


 

        Visit St. Mary's Basilica (open to tourists 14:00-18:00)




 
       Walk 20 minutes around Wawel Castel and cross over to the other side of the river
 


 
 
    Have dinner at Pryzystanek Pierogarnia Rynek Dębnicki


 

 
 
    Go down to bank of river and watch sunset on Wawel around 18:55
 



       Walk back to old town and visit Church of Saint Anne (evening mass 20:30. 21:30



 


 

 

2nd Monday

Krakow - Zakopane

 

         Check out, walk 5 mins to have breakfast in old town at Domowe Przysmaki




 

        Walk 20 mins to Records Dillaz (opens 11:00)

 

    

    Explore Kazimierz


    Go to Paul's Boutique

    Get some Polish 7"s for the jukebox


 

        Head across bridge to have lunch at Jamra Syrian Grill



        Walk 12 minutes to Rondo Matecznego 


 

        Catch bus to Zakopane (2 hours)

 

        Zakopane

         Arrive at Zakopane ul. Kasprowicza

 


        Walk 20 minutes 





        Have dinner at Bar Mleczny Nowotarska 4A (open until 9 PM)



     Walk 15 mins

    Walk to end of road


to Gąsieniców Wierch nature preserve

  
     Watch sunset and see stars come out over the Tatra Mountains

   Catch bus to Kasprowy Wierch Cable Railway station

 

        Get round trip ticket for gondola rides



    Hike out on ridge-line trail

     Head back down in 1 hr 40 min



 

    Catch bus back to stop by Zakopane sign

 

     Have lunch at Bar Gorski


 

    Walk up Krupówki Street


  
 

        Walk 5 mins to Pęksowy Brzyzek National Cemetery

   

    Walk 5 mins to Hostel 1902 *BOOKED $16* 15:00 check-in

    Stash gear at hostel


    Walk 5 mins to Kolej linowo-terenowa Gubałówka (funicular to top of

 Krakow to Warsaw


 

     Krakow Glowny

        Arrive 14:20

 Visit Palace of Culture and Science, go up to observation deck
 
    
         Walk 5 mins to check in at Oliwka Hostel *BOOKED $18*



 

        Walk 20 mins to old town

           Walk 5 mins to have dinner at Polish Street Food
 
        Walk 25 minutes to Prague City Beach on other side of river, watch sunset from there

 

 


 

 

6th Friday

Warsaw - Helsinki - Seattle - Vashon


Warsaw


        Arrive at Chopin Lopnisko Airport by 6.


Depart Warsaw for Helsinki at 8:55AM on Finnair (1 hr 40  min)

         "Only lovers will survive."          That was the pop song mantra that I'd launched myself on this journey with. I'm on some kind of spiritual odyssey , I told myself and others.
